Professor Hovhannes Mirzoyan, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor

Hovhannes Mirzoyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia, to the well-known artistic family. He was educated as a conductor in the classes lead by prominent conductors G. Terteryan, M. Maluntsyan, R. Mangasaryan. Graduated from the Yerevan State Conservatory in 1973; completed post-graduate studies as an opera and symphony orchestra conductor.

Started the professional activity in 1975 at the Aram Ter-Hovhannisyan Choir of the Armenia Choral Society; from 1975 till present teaches at the Chair of Conducting Art at the Yerevan State Conservatory. From 1996 – Artistic Director of the Opera Studio; heads the Chair of Opera, Symphony and Choirmaster Arts at the Conservatory.

Toured in Russia, USA, Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, etc.

H. Mirzoyan has been recorded at such studios as: Armenian RTV, "Melodia", "The Albanyrecords", "Classic Sound, Inc."

H. Mirzoyan conducted the first in Armenia performance of several classic and contemporary western and Armenian musical pieces.

Graduated from the Orchestral Department at the Komitas State Conservatory, the class in cello. Worked for various symphony and chamber orchestras, National Opera House. The reflections of the musician-celloist on the visual interpretation and musical images brought him to the Yerevan Institute of Fine Arts, where he majored in directing.

Heads the Chair of Opera Preparation at the Conservatory. Has tested his creative credo in cinema and TV, too.
