About Us > Sound library

Starting from the mid 1950ths, a prototype of the present sound library has started to shape in the Conservatory.

The sound library has its own important place in the life of the Conservatory, while almost all the lectures are accompanied with the audition of world music chefs-d'oeuvre.

During the Soviet period, the newest gramophone records periodically refreshed the collection of the library.

The heads and workers of the sound library were always gifted with the sense of creative enthusiasm. In this connection, it's important to stress the activity of Karo Kadjouni, who was one of its founders and the most devoted workers for long years. The appointment of the YSC professor Nelly Avetisyan as a new head of the sound library has become a new stage of its development. Under her leading, the collection of recordings was appreciable enlarged; besides, the professional systematization of the card index was realized.

At present, the sound library is equipped with 4 record players, 4 "Tesla" studio tape-recorders and 1 "Vesna" tape-recorder, 2 "Sony" CD-players (CD-players were granted to the Conservatory by its former student, now professor of the Conservatoire de Geneve, Eve Haroutyunyan-Plendoux).

The recording collection consists at present of about 5000 gramophone records and 700 CDs.

15 classrooms of the Conservatory are equipped with radio devices; it's possible to listen to the music simultaneously in 5 classrooms.

The collection of the sound library, including rare, sometimes unique recordings, plays its valuable role in the studying process.
